St. Louis County’s Unger Park may be reached by following Yarnell Road north from beneath Interstate 44, following the signs. At the first intersection within the park, the Trailhead is located to the left (west) near a picnic shelter. This segment of the Meramec Greenway Trail is located within St. Louis County’s Unger Park. No restrooms or water are available.
From just east of the trailhead the Meramec Greenway Trail may be followed south, where it is a share the road with Yarnell Road. Near Interstate 44 this segment links directly to the Fenton Meramec Greenway. The distance between the Unger Park Trailhead and Fenton City Park Trailhead is 2.5 miles. From just east of the Unger Park Trailhead the Meramec Greenway Trail may also be followed to the north and west, through Unger Park, generally paralleling the Meramec River, and ending at the park boundary. The total length of the Unger Park segment, from I-44 north and west to the park boundary, is 1.5 miles.
The trail in Unger Park passes near a shallow lake that is frequented by fishermen. Wildlife such as herons, egrets and other waterfowl are frequently observed.
