From Big Bend Road, drive south on Ries Road into the Meramec Valley to Kiefer Creek Road. Left on Kiefer Creek is the Castlewood State Park entrance. Follow Kiefer Creek Road through the park, passing beneath the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Just past that tunnel on the right (west) is the Castlewood Trailhead for the Meramec Greenway Trail. Castlewood State Park is managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Within the park are restrooms and water.
The Meramec Greenway Trail goes west within the Meramec River Valley for 1.5 miles. Here it intersects with another Castlewood Trail, the River Scene Trail, which ascends by stairs to the bluff-tops overlooking the valley. The Meramec Greenway Trail stops at this point because of a washout of trail further west.
An extensive network of trails is located in the Lincoln Beach Unit of Castlewood Park, and they are very popular with mountain bikers.
